Cinco de Mayo Countdown: Hot Guac!
Margaritas aren’t the only thing that make us eager to celebrate Mexican heritage. Avocados were the aphrodisiac of Aztec choice.
In fact the avocado’s original name, “ahutacatl” translates to err, “testical,” so enough said. Ancient Aztec dads might have kept a close eye on their virgin daughters during an avocado harvest, but modern revelers are glad to know that these vitamin B6-rich “fruits of kings“ enhance stamina and testosterone production — because more testosterone means a higher libido for both sexes.
All this to say… bring on the guacamole!
Recipe in the Raw:
1/2 cup White Onion, diced
Cilantro
Two Serrano or Jalepeno peppers, diced (Note the stimulating attributes.)
Sea Salt, to taste
Three Hass Avocados
1/2 cup Tomato, cherry of course, halved
Fresh Lime
Combine onion, a generous handfull of crisp cilantro leaves, peppers and salt in a traditional molcajete and grind away. (Seriously?). Add avocado and grind more gently until almost creamy. Add tomatoes. Finish with a squeeze of lime juice to prolong potency, and enjoy slowly.
