Kudos to Kiawah

Five-Star Bliss at Sanctuary’s Spa

The Spa at The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, SC, has earned five stars from Forbes (formerly Mobil) travel guide, making it one of only 20 spas to claim the accolade. Add that to kudos from the latest Conde Nast Traveler ”Readers’ Choice Award“ which named Kiawah the number one island in North America, and we’re ready to pack our sunscreen and sandals. Now if only we could decide between a two-hour Zen Retreat ($280) that includes a private yoga session, Thai massage and Reiki to heighten awareness and center energy (which we’ll need for cycling along the 10-mile stretch of immaculate beach, or for other plans in a private rental villa.);  Or, a series of pampering services called the Luxurious Retreat ($450). This begins with cocooning in detoxifying active algae extracts and seaweed serum, and finishes three hours later with a signature facial.

Although it IS a golf resort, the property is environmentally aware and has earned certifications from Audubon International and the National Wildlife Federation. Kiawah Island is one of only 29 NWF certified wildlife habitats in the U.S. So, remember to turn off beachfront lights if you visit during Loggerhead sea turtle nesting season (May to October), and please, don’t feed the ‘gators.
